Shatterproof

After nearly a decade of work in Frankfort, Rachel has ample experience tackling some of Kentucky’s most pressing policy issues. In 2015, Shatterproof, a national nonprofit that aims to end drug addiction, was looking to enact critical policy changes to decrease deaths by overdose.

While Kentucky lawmakers were keenly focused on the addiction issue, Rachel was tasked with helping Shatterproof gain support for the inclusion of two specific provisions in Kentucky’s heroin legislation - increased access to the life-saving medication, Naloxone and “No-Charge” good Samaritan laws.

A strategic public relations campaign was quickly put into place and key stakeholders were gathered, including the drug addiction advocate community, drug addiction experts and families and victims of addiction. Their voices were magnified through letters-to-the-editor, opinion-editorials, legislative testimony and letters to lawmakers.

The national client’s messages were successfully integrated into the local dialogue and another policy win was logged as both measures passed the legislature.
